700,000 malicious apps removed on Play Store
Play Store security is taken seriously and notifications are always available to let you know if something bad has happened on the Play Store. In recent years, malicious apps have been increasing, as reported, in the Play Store but it could be worse, as Google representative stated.
In 2017 alone, there were over 700,000 instances when apps were removed from the app store. The number of app removals increased 70% this year. The majority of those, 78% to be precise, that were, of course, removed before anyone even had an opportunity to install them. The company’s machine learning systems scan all of the apps on their platform for potential risks. Google removed 250,000 of the fake apps as well as those that used ads to display pornographic content.
It is important to know that Google is taking actions to protect users’ digital privacy. DARPA is funding and supporting the research.
Bottom line, users should be very cautious. Hundreds of thousands of applications on Playstore nowadays are fakes, or infested with malicious content.
