App Store takes down all not updated apps

Following the steps of Google, App Store decided to take down apps that haven’t been updated for a while. Robert Kamko, CEO of Protopop Games, made an announcement on Twitter for his free game ‘Motivoto’. Available to download on the App Store for over two years, he saw it removed.

Kamwe’s own app warnings are part of Apple’s revamped App Store Review Guidelines. “It’s not nice. Console games from 2000 are still available for sale,” Kamwe points out, “This is an unfair barrier to independent developers.”

The apps for the Apple’s operating systems that has been discontinued will remain available, just not in the App Store.

Apple is warning developers that in the case of their app’s removal, another developer will no longer be able to use the app name. Developers might want to update their apps regularly, especially when it comes to security measures. Whenever they make new improvements or changes, they need to change the app accordingly so that users will be able to access the newly added content or services. If you no longer update your app, consider removing it from the App Store.

Have you heard App Store takes down all not updated apps? What’s your opinion on this? That’s the way to show support to independenet developers without corporate funding? It is understandable, though, that regularly the store should have a refreshment. Google Play Store made a big app clearance. Read more here.
