Protect your microphone
Kaspersky Lab has patented a way to address unauthorized access to microphone data on Windows devices in order to help protect consumers microphone from the risk of audio surveillance.
A Kaspersky employee confirmed that the company uses a security solution that uses AI-powered tech. This innovative method prevents malicious access to microphones and provides comprehensive protection against viruses, malware & more. Exclusive technology only offered by Kaspersky.
In order to control access to the customer’s audio data, companies must monitor all microphone requests. The should also block all requests conducted by unauthorized programs or requested by an untrusted program.
Hackers can still capture sounds from surrounding devices if the microphone is off, or covered. However, it will decrease the chance of them being able to hear what’s said. Up until now, there hasn’t been a feasible way to protect a PC’s microphone by preventing access to it without some type of software. With the recent release of Windows 10, though, there is help on the way. ‘Kasperski Lab’s new, patented technology filters internal commands sent or received by the Windows Sound service.
Application control features
It indicates the creation of any new audio stream from any application. The technology uses Kaspersky Lab’s application control feature. The feature categorizes all programs as “trusted,” “very/slightly restricted” or “untrusted” based on reputation, content and manufacturer. In the case of blockage of your microphone, your application will take an “untrusted” or “very/slightly restricted” program offline by blocking it so that it won’t be able to record and share sensitive information.
“Consumer protection is important to us, and that’s why we create technologies to keep our customers’ digital lives safe from malicious access,” commented Alexander Kalinin, Senior PR Manager. “It is the same with speakers of a certain type.” He continued. “This is an appropriate example of the challenges we had encountered when designing for Windows. In short, we had to create a system which allowed different applications to record sounds at the same time. However, the solution of the problem came with the help of a rich kernel-driver infrastructure. This includes a mechanism for command control between Windows services.”
Kaspersky Lab has filed over 580 patents in the US, Russia, Europe and China.
