Samsung faces a serious data leak

Okta is investigating an alleged breach, following a group of hackers posting screenshots which they claim show internal company information.Perhaps the above news would be called “minor” if the company that reported it was not Okta and they did not provide authentication services to firms like Fedex or Moody’s. The purpose of the security breach is still unknown. The implications are very serious and could involve thousands of companies.

In its statement, Okta said that the leak may be related to an API change it made on September 25th.  The company stated.” We do not believe on the exposure of any sensitive customer data. The screenshots shared online might be related to the issue we detected in January. Based on our research, there is no evidence of ongoing malicious activity beyond what we identified in January. We’ve also found out that these attacks only affected a small number of our customers, and there is no indication that any of them lost data. “We are continuing our investigation and will provide additional information when it becomes available,” the statement concludes. The Lapsus$ group took to their Telegram account on late Monday night to release screenshots that reaffirm the earlier Reuters report.

The Lapsus$ is a collective of hackers who, according to Portuguese media giant Impresa, first attacked the company back in January and again last month after leaking confidential and sensitive data from the company’s upcoming merger with Jeronimo Mart. A similar data leak attack was carried out by the same group against Samsung of Korea.

Of course, during the years many companies have had security leaks. No wonder, Samsung faces a serious data leak now, but the multinational conglomerate handles the issue.
