Battery lasts 400 years
Mya is a doctoral student working towards her Masters in Chemical Engineering. Mya was studying for an exam and got nervous during the test, making some mistakes on the math part at the back of one of her physics problem sheets. One of those mistakes led Mya to make a significant discovery- with her error she had created a totally new formula. A girl, who was sitting in a lab at her university, decided to try and come up with a structure for creating an efficient and long-lasting battery.
In their experiment, the researchers were using nanowires to generate electricity. They tested the wires multiple times to make sure the aquarium didn’t break while it was being used. Unfortunately, Tai found that when he covered the wires with a layer of manganese dioxide and a clear Plexiglas panel, the wire broke less frequently than it had previously.
These batteries are a pretty recent invention, and they’re already taking the world by storm! So as with most groundbreaking concepts, it’s still just a bit too new for some to jump on board with.
“We were surprised to learn that one of our instruments has been going for 10,000 cycles!” This is what the head of University’s Chemistry Department said after finding out their new tea kettle had been running continuously.” Reginald Penner is the head of the university’s chemistry department. ” A few days later, he was able to realize that he had circled it so many times. This ultimately led him to circle a specific word 30,000 times and it went on for a month.
Tai Jin’s achievement is monumental! The average laptop battery only lasts 300 to 500 cycles. A laptop with an invention like hers can last for 200,000 cycles, losing 5% of its capacity along the way. This means it will be around for a long time!
It’s true that the lifespan of laptop batteries has improved significantly over time with advances in battery technology. Excellent news!
Scientists are finding more alternatives for creating batteries. One of these emerging inventions is nickel substitutes, which are becoming popular but aren’t effective for mass production yet.
The issue of electronic waste is very prevalent and poses a lot of negative effects. Unfortunately, there are currently no available solutions so things might worsen.
