Tablet sales in a steady decline | Less units sold worldwide than last year

There’s been a steady decline in tablet sales over the last few years, with recent data showing a 15 consecutive quarter-long sales drop. During the second quarter of 2018, tablets overall were bought 33 million times which is 5 million less than the same quarter last year. For the first time, the drop would be in double digits at 13.5%.

In spite of the popularity of the detachable form factor, most consumers on a smaller budget still regard traditional PCs as a better option. There is hope for detachables if the performance and software align with user demands, especially because there are new Surface Go, Chromebooks, and less expensive iPad Pros in the pipeline.

When it comes to tablet sales, Apple and Huawei seem to be the two companies on the rise. With over 11 million units sold, Apple reigns supreme in this industry with over a third of total sales.
