Computer virus infects TSMC
TSMC recently saw multiple facilities shut down following an incident involving a virus spreading through their system. TSMC – a chip manufacturer, is technologically-advanced and provides chips for some of the tech world’s top brands.
The company said the virus infected some of their “manufacturing tools” and that “the degree of infection varies” from factory to factory. Production has been halted because of the virus infection, but in some cases, production is starting up again. The company seems confident that the infection did not come from a hacker. TSMC was plagued by malware before, it is the first time it has interfered with the production line. They didn’t give any information about production rates or financial losses, since the virus hit at a time when many companies are preparing their new products for release in the fall.
