Birthday of Richard Reeves Brodie | The founder of Microsoft Word | Techday, November 10th
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 10th 1959, Richard Reeves Brodie was born. He is an American computer programmer and author, and the man responsible for the creation of Microsoft Word. What is really interesting is that he developed the first version of this program in less than seven months since joining Microsoft. Brodie, amongst other things, was also involved in the development of Microsoft Access.
Brodie was born in 1956 and began his career working at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, where he developed early versions of personal computer software. In 1983, he joined Microsoft, where he created the first version of Microsoft Word, which was released in 1985.
Word quickly became the dominant word processing software, and is still widely used today. Brodie left Microsoft in 1990 and went on to work on other software development projects. He is also known for his work on the development of the first version of the programming language C++.
