Apollo 11 was an american spaceflight, that was launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida, on this TECHDAY in history, in 1969. It was the fifth mission, of NASAโs Apollo program, that was crewed, and the first one to succeed on landing men on the surface of the moon.
Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was launched on July 16, 1969, at 9:32 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. The spacecraft consisted of the Command Module Columbia, the Lunar Module Eagle, and the Service Module.
The crew of Apollo 11 consisted of three astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969, while Collins orbited above. Armstrong famously declared “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” as he became the first human to set foot on the Moon. Aldrin joined him on the surface soon after. The mission was a major achievement for NASA and the United States, and it marked the end of the Cold War-era Space Race with the Soviet Union.
