The Legend of Zelda launch | First original release | Techday, February 21st
On this TECHDAY in history, on February 21st 1986, Nintendo launched the game in Japan and people loved it. The development team took their time to launch it internationally (1991) and as a result of the years of anticipation, it sold over 6.5 million copies. The Legend of Zelda is now the 5th most-sold game of all time with over 6.5 million copies sold.
The idea of open-world games was very innovative, to say the least, when it came from The Legend of Zelda designers – Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. “The Legend of Zelda” is one of the earliest examples of an open world game without any boundaries. The graphics and sound were top-quality, for its time. Difficult stages gave players the challenge they wanted to improve their skills while creating a community of fans who would share their strategies. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild released back in 2017. Its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is set for release in 2022.
