
How to set up parental controls on operating systems | Step-by-step guide
In the digital age, children now more than ever are vulnerable to online threats and dangers. Parents very often struggle to monitor their time in front of a screen and overall experience. To facilitate this task, below will follow a concise guide and make thing a bit less complicate for them.
Windows 10 / Windows 11
- Sign in to the Microsoft account
- Set up a child account and add a new member through Windows Settings > Family.
- Create an account for the child using an email address and then accept the invitation to be added to family group.
- Manage Family Settings Online
Something to consider, all parental control settings are by default off. Enable the features individually and customize to preference.
The process is quite similar for the Windows 11 operating system as well. First of all, the parent would need to create the child account, add it to the family group and then customize the settings.
Mac
For Mojave and older versions
- Select system preferences through the Apple icon
- Click the Parental Controls icon and after inputting the password select the account for a parental control filtering.
- Enable Parental Controls. Manage all apps, screen time and privacy through there.
For Big Sur and newer versions
- Customize settings through parent’s account via Family Sharing, or directly through the child’s account on System Preferences.
- Choose the child’s account and turn on Family Sharing in the left-hand panel.
Through this process parents can impose restrictions on all content presented from apps, games, media, even inappropriate websites.
