TECHDAY 28 June 2011 Launching day for Google+

Launching day for Google+ | Techday, June 28thΒ

G+ was a social network primarily setup to challenge other social networks on the market. This Google product released on this TECHDAY in history, on june 28th, linked a lot of Google’s other products like Drive and Youtube. It was created to be a place for users to feel more at home and show their different interests with ease. Its features included the ability to post photos and status updates, multiple-person instant messaging, text and video chat called Hangouts. One of its more noteworthy features was the Circles, a type of friends group. Because of some possible privacy liabilities and low user engagement, G+ had to close their doors for business and personal use on April of 2019.

The launch of Google+ met mixed reactions. Some praised the platform’s focus on privacy and the ability to easily share content with specific groups of people. Others criticized the platform’s lack of unique features and questioned its ability to compete with existing social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Despite these concerns, Google+ quickly gained a large user base, with over 10 million users within the first two weeks of launch.
