Patent for the gasoline-driven automobile by Karl Benz | A historic day for automobiles | Techday, January 29th
On this TECHDAY in history, on January 29th 1886, Karl Benz applied for a patent for the first successful gasoline-driven automobile. This patent served as the birth certificate of the modern automobile. The first three-wheeled Benz Patent Motor Car made its public debut some months later of this historic day for automobiles and was reported by publications at the time. This was a big step in paving the way for future advancements in automobiles. Karl Benz would eventually found the Mercedes Benz company.
The Benz Patent Motorcar, built in 1985, was the first modern automobile practical and produced in series. Six years earlier, he had produced a two-stroke engine, for which had also filed a patent as well. Along the way many more patents followed by this grand German inventor. Some of them include the speed regulation system, the spark ignition and plug, the carburetor, the gear shift, even the water radiator. Amazing!
