Labour market transformation

There is a need for new digital skills in the global labour market driven by technology and automation. Around two-thirds of people think technology and automation is important for their personal development in the workplace. Deloitte’s report on global human capital trends says that organizations and businesses should put people at the heart of their business strategy. The research reveals that companies should rethink the way they see workers by redesigning job categories into “superjobs”. This would make it easier to integrate human skills across different sectors.

A majority of respondents stated that using a more intelligent way to train employees is important or really important. That’s why companies are reinforcing the need for individuals to continuously develop skills that integrate learning and even into their lives. Even with the attention on learning, only 10% of individuals said their workplace is very ready to address this issue.

Though organisations try to make sure that they provide technology for their employees, only 38% of their respondents were satisfied with the tools and technology available from their organisation. This survey also shows that only 38% of respondents think they have enough autonomy in the workplace to make good decisions.

Talent Mobility

Internal talent mobility around the world is extremely important. 76% of respondents felt that new career tools, models and internal mobility are very important. Enterprises are transitioning to cloud-based software and services as a first step rather than the end-all solution. Despite billions of dollars invested into HR technologies, 65% of respondents report that these technologies are not always effective.

New talent initiatives are forcing many organizations to reconsider their approach to compensation and reward systems. They are becoming outdated and are not focusing on what is important to maintain long-term success of the employees. Today, only 11% of employees feel that their organizational goals are very much aligned with the reward system(s) in place. This is particularly worrisome since many people don’t know what rewards are most valuable to their employees.
