The new changes to Twitter

On May 17, Twitter announced new changes to its privacy policy which will give advertisers more opportunities to deliver targeted ads.

The app provides some options for the user to turn off personalized ads and data shared with third parties

Regarding the changes:

This will stop third parties like advertisers and publishers from tracking your browsing behaviour. At the moment, this is only open to Twitter users but we hope other companies will also adopt the same policy.

As a result of this, the social media app has decided to stop providing personalized ads, as they brought in more revenue for the company. They found that random ads generated more profits than those targeted towards specific demographics or interest groups.

Cookies. These are small pieces of data that are stored on a user’s device. They allow sites to remember who the user is and tailor their experience accordingly. Twitter is updating the way they target their ads so they can better tailor it to users. They’ve said that European residents and those in Iceland will not have to change the way marketing works on these sites.

Twitter is struggling to make the service more secure and private, but it’s not an easy task. In order to help users out, Twitter made changes for some information that can be shared on public channels and which are limited to the public domain.

You can choose how much information you want to share with advertisers by adjusting your privacy settings. For example, you might want to set up personalized ads across devices, but not share details about where you live or which partners you work with.
