The first 5G mobile data connection
Qualcomm announced today the first successful 5G data connection at the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit. The fifth generation mobile network sets new global standards. The radio-frequency technology made it possible with a 28GHz mmWave band. The network can be faster than 4G, delivering up to 20 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) peak data rates and 100+ Megabits-per-second (Mbps) average data rates. It aims to provide ultra low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users.
Qualcomm is working with popular device manufacturers on bringing this modem to the market. Reportedly, 5G data connection offers a lot of benefits for heavy mobile data users. As it makes its way to the mainstream, this modem will likely become a standard in 2019. 5G is experiencing a surge in popularity and the first test wave of devices has been unveiled to provide an excellent starting point. It will help move this process along more quickly, without affecting the performance in any way.
Qualcomm Technologies has announced that the advancement in 5G NR technology and the company’s reference design demonstrates its commitment to consumer broadband.
