Tinder will know your criminal record

Tinder will know your criminal record

Tinder does not currently have access to criminal records for its users. Criminal background checks are not a standard part of the user verification process for dating apps. Some states in the US allow for private companies to conduct background checks, but it is not a requirement for dating apps to do so. To ensure the protection of Tinder users, the popular dating app has decided to carry out additional checks on each user to see if there has been a possible criminal history.

It is possible for Tinder to implement background checks on the criminal record in the future if they choose to do so, but there is no indication that this is currently in the works. Additionally, background checks can be limited in their accuracy and completeness, and relying solely on them may not be a foolproof way of ensuring user safety.

Achieving this action will be a collaboration between Tinder’s parent company, Match Group, and Garbo, a non-profit that conducts criminal background checks focused on preventing inter-sexual violence. Garbo will offer information about someone’s criminal past after they pay a nominal fee, of course.

Ultimately, it is up to individual users to be vigilant and cautious when using dating apps, and to engage in conversations with potential matches to get to know them better before meeting in person. If a user has concerns about the safety of a potential match, they can take steps to research the person further or choose not to meet with them.
