WeChat: The Chinese “Facebook”

WeChat: The Chinese “Facebook”

With the rise of BOTs and chatbots that allow users to carry out a variety of tasks without speaking, there have also been comercial services that take advantage of this. Like Uber, for example – allowing users to hail rides in their area.

Last week’s Facebook “overtaking” of the company that runs China’s most popular social network, WeChat, is another demonstration of the power of the “Chinese Dragon”.

“To Vima” notes that Tencent Holdings is the powerful platform that has grown to become one of the world’s most popular messaging applications and also produces some of China’s most renowned computer games.

Microsoft and Apple are still miles above Amazon and Facebook in market capitalization. Alphabet is the only company with a higher market capitalisation than Facebook.

Tencent, a Chinese company, has achieved the feat of becoming the first $500 billion dollar company on the planet. For many years, Google founders Larry Page & Sergey Brin have been two of the richest people in the world – surpassing long-time Forbes leader Ma Huateng. Forbes now has a new list that ranks today’s wealthiest individuals. Ma has fallen from 9th place to 26th place.

 WeChat vs Facebook

Tencent’s share price has seen incredible success with a steep 69% increase in profitability. The company is, thus, expanding its reach scope of services to Malaysia.Tencent also owns stakes in software giants Snapchat, Lyft, and Tesla.

One of the biggest deals Tensent closed this year. That was the importing into USA of the very popular in Asia electronic game, Honour of Kings. Playable via smart phones, Tensent is going to make sure gamers can get their hands on these titles legally! The game, sometimes translated into English as “King of Glory”, allows players to pay money to upgrade their characters or outfits.

Tencent has taken a big leap in the eyes of Westerners with rankings as high as it was, and maybe even higher. There’s no denying that they are now included in conversations with other well-known companies like Apple, Amazon and Microsoft. And the WeChat app is not to be underestimated either – it has become one of China’s most popular apps. “There are now several options for messaging platforms” one British analyst notes. “If you have a grocery list, it can make the shopping experience more efficient.”
