YouTube disables comments
YouTube has disabled comments from all children’s videos in an attempt to deal with problematic content. YouTube has removed all comments from these types of videos and will continue to do so for the coming months. This is because they found that under seemingly innocent videos featuring children, comments with aggressive or pedophilic tendencies were being added underneath them. In total, there will only be a few channels that work with comments. However, the monitoring will begin.
YouTube has a new algorithm in place to detect and remove such inappropriate comments. Disney and Nestle decided to stop advertising after finding out that their products were running ads in YouTube videos with such comments. YouTube deleted tens of millions of comments and removed over 400 channels associated with controversial footage that perverted childhood innocence.
According to YouTube, their plans to eliminate the comments section won’t affact creators. The company will instead focus on other ways of measuring engagement. They also know that the comment section is important for creators to measure engagement, but that “it’s the right thing to do to protect the YouTube community.”
