The Sharp PC 1251 features a Hitachi CMOS SC61860 processor at 576kHz and memory of 4kB. It ran with the operating system of the BASIC version.
Sharp Corporation designed, manufactured and marketed with success combined pocket computers with calculators. Already a decade before, Sharp had already developed the first LCD calculator and was active in producing gaming machines as well among others, not limiting only into the personal computers division. Contracts with Nintendo granted the company rights for the production of the famous C1 NES TV for example, or the Twin Famicom and Famicom Titler.
In these years, the Japanese manufacturer held a strong position in world market on various categories. Among the affordable products were house appliances, such as ovens, cassette players, amplifiers and high end television receivers.
