Throttling in the new MacBook Pro 2018
The Macbook Pro 2018 is dealing with throttling issues that is dropping their performance drastically.
The throttling in Apple’s initial tests was only found under intense working conditions, as The Verge revealed. The bug affects the 13-inch and 15-inch models and also all Intel processor options but not the previous generations.
“Through extensive performance tests with different workloads we identified that there is a missing digital key in the firmware that affects system thermal management and can drive core timing speeds low under intense thermal loads on the new MacBook Pro. Today’s macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Supplemental Update includes a fix and we thus recommend installing it. We apologize to any customer who experienced anything less than optimal performance on their new systems. Our customers can expect the new 15-inch MacBook Pro to be up to 70% faster and the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar to be 2x faster, as shown in the performance results on our website”.
The throttling is affecting all the 2018 MacBook Pro, this means that a software update is necessary since the problem is software.
