Technology is changing transactions

Technology is changing transactions | Innovative technologies bring changes

A few days ago the first fully automated supermarket officially opened its doors. Amazon created a store, where the customer after concluding shopping leaves the store without queuing, as there are no cash registers. The cameras record every movement of the customer and the customer is automatically charged to his electronic “wallet” and the electronic credit card on his mobile phone at the time of leaving the store. The experiment is expected to have a major impact on retailers around the world in the future. After online transactions via the Internet, it is time for the facilitation of physical shopping by digital technology.

But it is not the first system that tries to make shopping as easy as possible for consumers, especially the payment process. A number of innovative technologies and systems evolve for this very purpose.

Walmart, Uniqul, Alibaba, Mastercard

The retail giant Walmart is developing a system to recognize consumers’ facial expressions. The aim of the American company is to collect data on customer satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Their aim is to improve its services and avoid losing customers. The hi-tech shopping technology will consist of cameras placed in the checkout area of the stores that will monitor the expressions and movements of customers.

Finnish company Uniqul is developing similar technology. This technology bases on a camera installed in the cash registers of stores to automatically pay the customer’s bill. The system works by “scanning” the customer’s face as soon as they reach the cashier. It then refers to a database to find and identify the details of that user in order to carry out the financial transaction.

The financial arm of Chinese online supermarket Alibaba presented an innovative technology. It will allow financial transactions in a virtual environment with a simple head shake. The VR Pay system will allow customers to remain in the virtual world and manage payment methods for purchasing services or goods with a nod.

Lastly, Mastercard is testing a new application based on “reading” the facial features of bank account holders. According to the US company, the new service will attract younger users. That would happen because they are familiar with selfies. It will replace the entry of the familiar pin code with a ‘self-portrait’. The special Mastercard app will ask users to blink their eyes at the mobile camera to prove themselves.
