Android virus mines cryptocurrency | malicious worm detected
It’s not surprising at all to see malware designed to steal processing resources with cryptomining on the rise. The recent one is targeting Android devices. Cryptocurrencies have recently flooded our news feeds and we’re hearing about them everywhere. Cybercriminals have taken advantage of this to make money by stealing and extorting as well as mining cryptocurrencies in illicit ways.
According to Chinese security firm Qihoo 360 NetLab, a malicious worm released on the Internet had a specific design to target Android devices. ADB.Miner, as recently discovered, has the ability to infect nearby and vulnerable devices as well as perform processes beyond mining.
A fake antivirus program was discovered just a month ago by the Kaspersky Labs and it is mining cryptocurrency illegaly. It is now needless to say that all Android device users should take care of their online activities. This can be accomplished by regularly performing software updates.
With the constant rise in popularity for cryptomining, we certainly expect the appearance of more such malware.
