Electronic tattoo

Electronic tattoo.

You place your fingertip on the mole on your skin and answer the phone. Or you swipe over a wrinkle or scar to change the volume of music.

A team of German and American researchers has been working on a skin-friendly device that people wear around their imperfections. It not only functions as a protective barrier, but also turns into touch sensors to control your mobile phone.

The University of Saarland in Saarbrücken, Germany, led by Martin Weigel, as well as Google, is going to formally present their achievement at an international conference on human-computer interaction next month.

The scientists used conductive ink to print tiny wires and electrodes on a tattoo paper. They thus created electronic tattoos, called SkinMarks, that are thinner than a human hair. They adhere to the skin with the help of water and last for a few days.

There are a lot of way to use the tattoo, such as to command music. For example, touching your finger on the tattoo might cause it to play or pause.”If the tattoo covers your hand you make a fist, pressing each part of the tattoo is an individual key.

The designs of the tattoos can be varied and even produce electricity. For example, when electricity penetrates the tattoo, it lights up (e.g., to alert the user that they have a new message on their phone).

Your heart-shaped tattoo will flash to show you a notification when your significant other calls. Simply meet contact with the tattoo to start talking.

It’s expected that in the near future, electronic tattoos will be connecting with “Android device” to allow you to use them no matter what they’re doing. However wearable technology is already becoming more popular and flexible electronics are expected to be the next trend.
