How many hours we spend using our mobile apps

According to research, in 2021 we spent 1/3 of our waking hours looking at our mobile screen with 70% of that time spent on social media.

Around 500,000 apps are downloaded every minute and in 2022 this statistic is expected to increase. In 2021, $170 billion spent in 2021 to purchase apps that were not provided to the user for free. The most popular of these is TikTok, expected in 2022 to have over 1.5 billion monthly active users.

App Annie reports

According to a report by App Annie, the average person spent approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes per day using mobile apps in 2021. Largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it led to an increase in screen time as people spent more time at home. The report also showed that social media, gaming, and video streaming apps were among the most popular. They accounted for the majority of time spent on mobile devices.

Social media apps saw a significant increase in usage, with users spending an average of 1 hour and 15 minutes per day on these apps. Gaming apps also saw a rise in popularity, with users spending an average of 45 minutes per day playing games. Video streaming apps also saw an increase in usage. Users spent an average of 1 hour and 30 minutes per day watching videos.

In terms of demographics, the report found that young people aged 18-24 spent the most time using mobile apps. The average screen time is 4 hours and 15 minutes per day. Meanwhile, older age groups such as those aged 45-54 and 55 and over spent less time. Their average time was 2 hours and 45 minutes and 2 hours per day, respectively.
