Intel manages to fit 17qubits on a chip
Intel invested in quantum computing and its efforts have paid off. It was an order of magnitude more expensive than what Intel originally planned, but the payoff has been well worth it. As quantum computing evolves, more and more algorithms are being proposed that take advantage of the qubits’ abilities to store both 0 and 1 simultaneously. This can lead to major improvements in problem solving & perform a speedier number crunching.
Intel’s 17-qubit chip is an important first step for the field of quantum computing. It is not revolutionary, but it provides important insight into how technology will evolve in the near future. One of the important aspects of Intel’s new microprocessor is that it can fit 17 quantum bits into a limited space, while at the same time making sure that it can withstand extremely low temperatures
The new Intel processor takes hints at what quantum computing will be able to achieve, while providing some questions unanswered.
