
Standalone virtual reality device
One of the big reasons why head-mounted platforms like Oculus Go are so appealing is because they are so easy to share with others. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the new device this week which does not require a computer for operation in contrast to The Oculus Rift.
The new consumer product, called the Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker, will cost $199 and will go on sale in early 2018 according to French & Reuters.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated that their new device is the first VR product to offer a virtual experience without requiring either a wired connection to another computer or a smartphone.
The Oculus Go is a virtual reality headset for mobile devices, which uses internal cameras, sensors & special software to allow you to enter the world of VR and “translated” bodily movements into movements in the simulated, digital world.

Sony, HTC and Oculus are currently the major players in the personal virtual reality device market. Facebook acquired them in 2014. Google offers a different device called Daydream, used in conjunction with some smartphones.
Alongside the launch of its cheaper alternative, Oculus made another announcement. The company will lower their original entry-level headset, the Oculus Rift, from $499 to $399. They estimate 213K headsets to be sold by the end of 2020 at that price point.
