Greek Social Networking Tool
A tool with growing community
A social network geared towards people with disabilities, where they can connect effectively. It currently has over 300,000 registered members.
A social media platform has been designed in order to reduce the barriers that exist for people with disabilities, who struggle with exclusion every day in their daily lives. It’s by developer Petros Kaloupis.
Today 335,835 people have signed up for www.disabledbook.com as of this writing. It can often be difficult for people with a disability to find like-minded individuals in their area. AI provides support for people with disabilities because our algorithm is both capable of detecting various types of disabilities. This can be done through connectivity speed and typing speed, but also the type of disability. Kaloupis, who works at NetMove told The Athens Macedonian News Agency
How it started
The effort started in 2016. A Greek networking tool like Facebook was Kaloupi’s goal, and it took everything he had to create one. According “However, my specific efforts began when a friend of mine sent the email to me that he wanted there to be a social media for disabled people, and I also relied on that community”
There are people who cannot go beyond the walls of their home even through electronics, and this is because there is no tool that allows for communication between homes inside their area. Kaloupis also acknowledges that this need for outreach and communication exists, which is why he talks about creating more opportunities. “But we are also talking about people with disabilities, the elderly, foreigners, and people with a low education. “All of them together with people with disabilities face a terrible problem in being able to access information at the time they want it and be alone in this process without having to call someone,” he added.
How it works
The DisabledBook.com, the first Greek social networking tool turns to Greek-inspired artificial intelligence to identify the correct tools for you based on your specific needs and equipment. They can also ask you further information for input, like whether you prefer aural or tactile feedback.
The website is free and has over 300,000 registered users which shows that people have responded incredibly well to the platform. One of the next goals for DV is to integrate disabledbook.com’s technologies into other web applications and websites. This makes it easier for many more people to experience the great things that are happening on disabledbook.com without visiting a website at all, to produce websites that are accessible to everyone, a business would need to consider the ADA requirements. The app can automatically make this happen.” he explained
To further improve the services on our platform, we’re always hoping to hear from new companies and researchers. “We’re reaching out to universities, students, innovation centers. We have already reached out to Google and anyone who has a good knowledge on IT and an idea that can help people excluded. By collaborating, together we can make their idea a reality. The application’s creator didn’t give the Funder much information about the specific funding needs.
