Messenger will alert you to scams
In the early days of social media, potential chat partners would only come from your friends. As it shares information with friends, it was rare to get messages from complete strangers. Since then, fake accounts have been a scourge on the platforms. Usually with the aim of misleading users and extracting either money or personal information from them. Facebook decided to protect conversations in users’ messages and now, if you receive a message from someone who is not on your friends list, Messenger will warn you that it might be a scam or a fake account.
It will also offer you some tips like avoid giving money to that person. In case the account that is communicating with you has been set up to look like someone you know. Messenger will alert you to this. These tools won’t stop scams and impersonations, of course, but they will at least add another layer of protection for the user before they are convinced they are talking to their friend.
