Microsoft’s Chromium Edge available
Windows 10 was released with the Edge browser, but it was quickly overshadowed by Chrome’s market dominance. Microsoft had big plans for this browser, which they never saw through. So in 2018, Google announced that it would change its direction and work with Chromium. The reasoning behind this is that by working with the open source browser, they would be able to offer more unique features and improve performance.
There has been some recent talk about how much time, effort, and money allocated on compatibility. This is a great opportunity to take a step back and critically evaluate the investments our company is making in building an inclusive web. At some point, Microsoft realized that it would be wiser to contribute towards a common base which would improve the performance for all Windows browsers. The additional value is that all users will benefit from enhanced performance.
So Microsoft is making the Chromium-based Edge browser available today and you can download it here. Upgrades will start next week on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, macOS and iOS to automatically upgrade your Microsoft edge browsing experience.
The new Edge browser will offer significantly higher browsing speeds, better security, and will also offer compatibility with older web apps. The Collections feature where you can gather information from pages and organize it however you want is going to be a huge feature for users in the future. Microsoft’s Chromium Edge is now available.
