Mobile phones outnumber people | Mobile phone analogy on population
We may say that the planet is dominated by humans, but this is perhaps more true for mobile phones.
Figures released by the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Telecommunications Union, and published by Quartz, confirm that within the current decade the number of active mobile phone connections and mobile devices is greater than the population of the Earth. This should not lead us to conclude that every person on the planet owns at least one mobile phone, since the data shows that 1.1 billion people do not even have access to electricity, so it makes no sense to own a mobile phone.
The number of mobile connections is so large that a very large proportion of mobile owners use two or more connections, depending on their needs. At the end of 2018, the International Telecommunication Union certified that there were around 5.28 billion mobile broadband connections, with 45% of these, or 2.38 billion subscribers, using it to get on Facebook at least once every month.
Another interesting point that emerges from the UN data on daily usage globally is that if one compares the growth rate of the mobile phone market to the growth rate of the human population, one will notice that mobile is growing at a much faster rate, with no sign of a stop in the upward trend on the horizon.
