Monthly Facebook users increased
Facebook announced that it had 2.27 billion monthly users in the July-September 2018 quarter, 10% up from a year ago.
In general, most new users’ country of origin derives from developing countries like India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. There is a decline in the US and Europe among younger generations as well, probably because of other social networking platforms being popular to youngsters.
Revenue increased in 2018 by over 33%, and the company also earned a profit above $5 billion, showing an increase of 9% over the third quarter. “Overall, considering all the challenges Facebook has faced this year, its financial results are decent,” commented analyst Debra Williamson of eMarketer.
Facebook has been embroiled in a public debate about its potential impacts on democracy and our health as well as its frequency of facilitating the spread of fake news, hate speech and leaks. In recent months, Facebook has been making some powerful headway combating these negative aspects. Even Zuckerberg himself has been promising solutions.
