New DGX-2 supercomputer
A lot of people may associate Nvidia with their popular GeForce line of graphics cards, but the company also offers other products aswell. Nvidia has recently made some strategic investments into AI. It is doing this to set itself up as a new player with different technological solutions.
At this year’s GPU Technology Conference, Nvidia announced its successor to the commercial supercomputer that it released 6 months ago – the GDX-2. DGX-2 is almost 10 times faster than its predecessor.
The interior is designed with the latest technology. The 16 Tesla V100 GPUs inside the box includes two separate GPU boards. Each V100 processor has 32GB of HBM2 memory and will put you at over 512GB total. With 1.5TB of standard RAM and two Intel Xeon Platinum CPUs, the system delivers a lot of power. NVME SSDs takes care of things like storage, housed in a total capacity of 30TB.
The DGX-2 is up for pre-order now and it’s going to cost $399,000. The release date is for the third quarter of the year.
