The Nec PC 8801 features a NEC μPD780C processor at 4 MHz and memory of 64kB. It ran with the operating system of NEC N 88 BASIC version.
NEC, previously known as Nippon Electronic Company, is a Japanese electronics company. Business includes operations in different divisions such as IT solutions, cloud computing, AI ang Internet of Things (IoT) platform. During the years, the company produced telecommunications equipment, electronic components, semiconductors, home computers. The radio communications business and photo-telegraphic equipment were among the early divisions of involvement. During the 1920s, the corporation imported the broadcasting equipment from Western Electric to Japan.
For the local Japanese market, NEC was among the best home computers manufacturers along with Fujitsu and Sharp. The best selling PC-8xxx series held a dominant place in the computer share market alongside strong rivals. Subsidiaries of the company sold accordingly well in the North American market as well.
