The Sharp Zaurus ZR5800 features a 16-bit Sharp processor and memory of 2MB. It ran with the operating system of the OpenZaurus version.
The Sharp Zaurus was a series of personal digital assistants (PDAs) that met distinctive fame and success during the ‘90s in Japan. They featured LCD screens, handwriting recognition. Later models adopted functions similar to a FAX as well, like the PI-4000. The PI-5000 in particular included email and mobile phone interfaces.
Sharp Corporation designed, manufactured and marketed with success combined pocket computers with calculators. Already a decade before, Sharp had already developed the first LCD calculator and was active in producing gaming machines as well among others, not limiting only into the personal computers division. Contracts with Nintendo granted the company rights for the production of the famous C1 NES TV for example, or the Twin Famicom and Famicom Titler.
In these years, the Japanese manufacturer held a strong position in world market on various categories. Among the affordable products were house appliances, such as ovens, cassette players, amplifiers and high end television receivers.
