The Sony Ericsson P990i features a GSM Network connection without antenna, but including Wifi and Bluetooth. The operating system was the Symbian 9.1 version and had color display and polyphonic sound. Symbian operated smartphones were considered open phones. That meant that users could install third party applications without restrictions.
The Sony Ericsson P series presented some distinctive and interesting appearance. The models’ numeric keypad flipped open to reveal the QWERTY keyboard underneath. They targeted both home and business users. This series was labeled as the PDA ( personal digital assistant) phone series as well.
The Sony Mobile Communications Inc. was a Japanese joint venture between Sony Group Corporation and Swedish Ericsson founded in 2001. 2007 marked the peak of the company with the shares occupying 9% of the global mobile phone market holding fourth place in the classification of manufacturers.
