Privacy Affairs, a privacy-focused VPN provider, analyzed thousands of dodgy ads on the Dark Web. They found that through those ads hackers could steal passwords and other important personal data. This provides insight into how many cybercrime experiments are impacting our daily lives. They discovered that when looking at an address associated with an ad, it is not hard to find out who owns or runs that address.
On average, a stolen Facebook account sells for $74.50 with Instagram at $55.45 and Twitter at $49 on average.
NordVPN’s Daniel Marcuson explains that the prices may seem relatively low, but malicious hackers typically steal social media accounts to carry out more complex scams. “This information can be used in many malicious actions, such as ‘identity theft’ so I recommend going with a secure VPN service”.
