Volvo Trucks collaborates with SAS
Volvo Trucks North America has expanded its Remote Diagnostics technology. The aim is to make things easier for truck drivers. This is why the company enhanced them with a sophisticated analytics platform from SAS, a leading analytics company. SAS provides excellent analytics which supports the use of artificial intelligence. It, also, provides more data analysis and decision support for Remote Diagnostics.
“Working with SAS has helped us further improve our uptime. There was improvement in Remote Diagnostics services through more efficient processing of the data behind the diagnostic codes”.ย Ash Makki, Product Marketing Manager, Volvo Trucks Noth America stated as well. “We’ve been able to expand the component and fault codes we track. Now we identify occasional patterns that help us improve accuracy and gain better insight into root causes. Finally, these improvements ultimately suggest that Volvo Action Service (VAS) partners are receiving more accurate data. This data can allow them to better analyse fault codes and provide information to decision makers and repairers. Ultimately, they will help to maximise the uptime of each vehicle.”
Data Management
“Machine learning and artificial intelligence are areas we are putting a lot of focus on right now, leveraging the SAS platform,” said Conal Deedy, Director of Connected Vehicle Services for Volvo Trucks North America. “We’re discovering hidden data in our data and merging it with ingested knowledge from our engineering team. This allows us to understand much better what the data is telling us and integrate it into our Remote Diagnostics service. We’re already seeing the benefits and the future should be extremely exciting. By leveraging the SAS platform, Volvo can process millions of pieces of data in real time, extending the capabilities of Remote Diagnostics, which on average helps reduce diagnostic time by 70% and repair time by 25%.”
Jason Mann, the VP of IOT for SAS said that Volvo Trucks and SAS developed a comprehensive and flexible data analytics system “Transportation is a key part of the global logistics system that makes our economies work. Improving efficiency and reducing costs helps everyone in the supply chain. By using SAS’s various analytics techniques to derive value from the IoT data derived from each vehicle, Volvo Trucks can optimally meet the needs of its customers.โ
Since 2013, every company truck with a Volvo engine has pre-installed telematics system that provides connectivity to Remote Diagnostics. This means that when there is a code related to engine, transmission or any problems related to these systems, Volvo can get the issue diagnosed before it causes any harm and troubles are avoided.
