Platforms such as Spotify, Netflix, Amazon Prime and the more recent Xbox Game Pass are blossoming exponentially because they offer experiences without complex bells and whistles. Now you’re never more than a click away from all the digital content in the world. You can experience your favorite movies and shows or games for an extremely low monthly fee. Some people may still use pirated content despite the rapid growth of users who are aware of them.
The Android version of Spotify has been lying in a ‘broken’ form for years in the ‘known unknown’ alleys of the internet. The app provides premium features without needing a connection in some versions. Of course something like this could not fail to reach the ears of the company. They have been trying in recent months to find a server-side way so that they can identify on first-time use of this and then block access to it. It’s been a few days where users found themselves receiving an email, causing inconvenience:
This notice makes it clear to users that some “unusual activity” was the reason the company decided to block their account. There is a simple solution: “Uninstall the unauthorized or modified Spotify app and download and install the one found in the official Google Play Store.” Obviously, Spotify is saying this isn’t a definitive block. The users are able to access the app using the regular login process, so it’s just a warning for now.
It is unknown whether the company will move legally, at a later date.
