Strange jelly found on the Moon
The Chinese rover Yutu-2 reported a jelly-like substance with the colour of a dark glow. The Rover had landed on the side of the moon that is in perpetual darkness only a few days ago. The Chang’e-4 rover accidentally stumbled upon the strange material and received immediately instructions by its Chinese operators in Beijing to postpone other planned activities in order to focus its instruments on the unexpected discovery.
The material, located at the bottom of a small recent crater, stands out noticeably in terms of shape, texture and colour compared to its surrounding lunar environment, reports the AP-MPA.
At the moment there is no explanation of what it is. No photo of the material the Chinese have yet released. According to one version, it is molten glass, created by a meteorite falling on the moon.
The Chinese discovery recalled the surprise and excitement of the 1972 discovery – by NASA’s Apollo 17 geologist astronaut Harrison Schmidt – of a bright orange-coloured section of lunar soil, which was eventually estimated to have been created during a lunar volcanic eruption 3.64 billion years ago.
Chang’e-4 landed on 3 January this year on the permanently hidden side of the moon. The small lunar shuttle rover Yutu-2 has since been exploring the surface around the landing site, having already travelled a few hundred metres. Have you already read about this strange jelly found on the Moon?
