USB stick changes the “game” | Trek Thumbdrive | Techday, February 25th
On this TECHDAY in history, on February 25th 2000, a small company from Singapore, “Trek”, made a very interesting presentation. At the Cebit Exhibition, presented a small device that would revolutionise file storage and transfer. ThumbDrive is the first USB Stick to go into production. An invention that will eliminate in the coming years a number of other media, floppy drives, CD or DVD recorders. And thanks to that, today tens of GB of data fit in a small case in the wallet. The Trek ThumbDrive, with 8MB in its original version, could hold up to six times the data of a 3.5 ” floppy disk and was only a fraction of its size, without the need for a device to read/record it. The success of ThumbDrive was so immediate and gigantic that Trek was transformed in a short time from a small company to a multinational corporation with offices in all major countries of the world.
