Google Maps was first announced through a blog post on the Google Blog on this TECHDAY in history, on February 8th 2005. It is a web mapping platform and consumer application offered by Google that would revolutionize online maps and the digital map market at large, helping to create one of the most successful brands for companies and individuals in history.
Google Maps has already provided millions of people with a comprehensive map of the entire world, showing them where they are, where they’re going, and how to get there. The platform features many useful elements. Some of them, include aerial imagery, 360-degree interactive street view for easier route planning on foot, bike or car. Google Maps recurrently updates the geospatial data visualization and real-time trafiic analysis.
Fun fact, Google Maps first developed as a C++ program later acquired by Google Inc. to become a mapping platform!
