The spread of the Internet
Greeks spend a lot of time on the Internet and are constantly increasing its use with more devices. Estimates show that 8 out of 10 Greeks have the option to surf it from their desktop, phone or tablet.
Greece enjoys extremely high internet penetration rates. The data is similar to those of other countries. It’s reached especially high levels, with a whopping 20% of the population using the internet. A study in Focus ontechlife surveying over 20,000 people, covered the period between January and March of 2017. Among 13-74 year old, over 80% of them use multiple devices like PCs, cellphones and tablets. This is about 4 points higher than the previous quarter.
70.6% of Greeks are daily users, while 87.8% of Greeks under the age of 44 use the internet on a regular basis. This shows that these groups have easy access to information on a day-to-day basis. Social media are very popular with Greeks, and they spend an average of 2.9 hours daily on them.
The spread of the Internet has led to an increase in its use. Internet use this time is averaging 187 minutes. The highest performance is evident in people of age 18-24 where it’s averaging 243 minutes. On the other hand, users who are 55 to 64 years old mostly have daily Internet use that is above 1 hour. This is also true of age groups older than 40 in general.
More and more Greeks are using their smartphones now. These devices continue to be the main means of accessing the Internet as well. 71% of people 18-24 are using their smartphone to go online. 54% of the Greeks use their phones to access the internet, and they are most likely to be teen or younger. Almost 9 out of 10 users are people aged 13-24. In fact, the smartphone as a means of accessing the Internet also leads at household level, with 65.1%, The laptop has combined with the mobile phone to create new devices that will seem ever-present in this era. (53.2%) and the desktop computer (36.9%).
In 2018, the number of households in Argentina that had access to the Internet increased by 44% and those using pay-TV decreased by 20%.
45% of respondents say they download apps on their smartphones, with the top 5 most popular categories being social media, maps, games, information and music – video.
These stats show how much the internet has spread and that people of all ages are increasingly using digital devices to access online content. People are also exploring the way they access information. People in the other age groups are much more likely to own a smartphone, so they’re more likely to be available. This may explain why the development of smartphones has been slower in these age groups compared to other age groups. In particular, children under the age of 6 are using their phones for only about 4% of their time. As the kids get older, this number becomes more and more common. It could be that parents are giving them permission to use mobile phones or that they give their kids mobile phone.
