TSMC 3nm chip factory
Carrying a 7nm process node is becoming the standard for smartphone vendors. Yet, if we think about the way chipsets are made, it might be that creating them is a difficult and tricky process. While TSMC can’t now say exactly when 5nm chips will arrive, we know that the designs are coming soon. In a few years, the mobile industry will likely enter some new era where things will be faster and more productive.
The Taiwanese company invested $19 billion for a 3nm fab in August. TSMC’s 3nm fab is becoming a reality as the company passed their environmental assessment. They are expecting to begin the construction in 2020, install all of their equipment in 2021, and be operational by the end of 2022 and early 2023.
TSMC always has been manufacturing strong, inhouse R&D capability. Considered a world leader in the semiconductor division, the manufacturer provides the most advanced quality comprehensive portfolio in the process technologies. N3 technology will present many strong features. Improvements will be visible on speed, power reduction and logic density gain among others.
